Sewage spill occurs in area on West 63rd St.

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

City crews responded to a minor sewage spill Wednesday afternoon at 409 and 520 West 63rd St.

Grease blocked the in a gravity sewer main causing a manhole to overflow. An estimated 250 gallons of sewage spilled.  

The amount of this spill is classified as a minor spill under State Environmental Protection Division guidelines, according to a news release from the city of Savannah.

The spill was fixed by 3:35 p.m. Wednesday. The blockage was cleared in the gravity sewer and the sewer system will be cleaned and evaluated, according to the city. 

Notifications about the spill were posted at Temple and Belt streets and at  the Springfield Canal at Bowles Ford Park and Gwinnett Street. All agencies required by the State EPD were notified.
