SCMPD: Three shootings isolated incidents

Posted: Updated:
SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Three shooting incidents in three days in Savannah's Central Precinct over the past week has plenty of neighbors concerned about the rise of crime.

Police said they are keeping a close eye on the neighborhood, but they also said it was purely coincidental the shootings all happened within a few blocks of each other, and they don't believe the neighborhood around 37th Street and Waters Avenue is unsafe.

The SCMPD said after the first shooting on April 18 they immediately went into action, trying to figure out who was responsible.

Then, after two shooting incidents on April 19 and 20, one of which killed Malcom Mitchell, the SCMPD increased their presence in marked and unmarked cars around 38th Street and Waters Avenue.

Investigators insist the shootings are strictly isolated incidents.

"The violence that occurred this weekend was isolated between individuals," said SCMPD Maj. Larry Branson. "There's no targeting of individuals who live in that neighborhood. That's where the violence occurred geographically, but there's nothing to say that there's any danger on 37th Street."

Police are still actively investigating these shootings, and they are hoping for tips from people living in the area.
