WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Former Arkansas governor and presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee traveled to Wilmington Friday to raise money for congressional candidate Woody White.

White, chair of the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners, faces former State Senator David Rouzer in the Republican primary.

Huckabee flew into the Wilmington airport, where he taped a commercial for White and spoke with reporters.

Later in the evening, the former governor was scheduled to attend a $25-per-person event a Brunswick Forest in Leland and a $250-per-couple event at Cape Fear Country Club in Wilmington.

Huckabee said he doesn't know Rouzer, but praised White as someone who won't be swayed by Washington politics.

"I'll never ever feel like I'll pick-up a newspaper and be shocked and surprised at how Woody votes because he has already established in his life and in his career that he is a person who acts out of his convictions and not out of the conveniences of what's good for him on any given day," Huckabee said.

Rouzer has also received the endorsement of GOP heavyweights. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor headlined a February fundraiser in Wilmington for the candidate.
