Businesses scared after multiple shootings

Posted: Updated:
SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Businesses near Savannah's latest fatal shooting fear violent crime is creeping closer to them.

Police are investigating three more shootings that happened over the weekend, one on Georgia Avenue, one near Bee Road and 37th Street and another at 56th and Bull streets.

Business owners in the area have heard shots fired blocks away, but they've never seen them right across the street, and they've never seen fatal gunfire.

They said there has always been a sort of imaginary line, and that like has been crossed.

Neighbors said the shootings and shots fired on Saturday afternoon was a drive-by shooting involving several cars near the intersection of Bee Road and 37th Street, and some of the bullets hit houses on 37th Street. However, that has not been confirmed by police.

A man did show up at the hospital with a gunshot wound later that night, and on Saturday afternoon, a man was shot on Savannah's eastside at Georgia and Alabama avenues. He survived that shooting.

But on Bull and 56th Street, it is all a little too close for comfort for Preseley's Autotrim.

"It's scary," said owner Jeff Presley. "I mean, we spend a lot of time right here in front, and it makes you scared. Scared to be outside when bullets start flying. You have to work. Things seem to be getting worse than they used to be."

The investigations into each of these incidents are being handled by the Criminal Investigation Unit.

If you have any information on any of the shootings, please contact Crimestoppers at 912.234.2020.
