Rincon man sentenced for beating girlfriend's toddler

EFFINGHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

A Rincon man accused of beating his girlfriend's two-year-old daughter in a bathtub was sentenced in Effingham County Tuesday morning. 

Robert Edwards was sentenced to 60 years with 40 to serve for the August 2013 incident.

Investigators say Edwards choked, beat and burned the child.  

Edwards and the child's mother, Sabrina Saunders, were indicted on several counts, including aggravated assault and cruelty to children. 

Saunders will be sentenced at a later date.

    People gathered at E. Shaver's bookstore in downtown Savannah for a book signing of Larry Peterson's newly published book, "Deadly Dust".

     The book explores the Imperial Sugar refinery explosion 10 years ago where 14 people were killed and more than 3 dozen injured. It is the first full study of the explosions and fire at the Imperial Sugar Refinery, including first-person interviews, court records and hundreds of government documents.
