Red Cross readies for SE storm response

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Southeast Georgia Chapter of the American Red Cross has put volunteers on standby to help Southeastern states affected by the storms.

"We are ready to support in our local area and throughout the states of Georgia, Alabama, Arkansas and Mississippi," said John Wright, American Red Cross manager of Chapter Operations, in a news release.

Nationally, the American Red Cross is responding across the South and Midwest to help those affected by the storms, according to a news release.

The Red Cross opened shelters on Monday night in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Mississippi and Virginia.

They are providing health and mental health services and Red Cross emergency vehicles are distributing food and relief supplies.

Those who would like to help people affected by disasters like tornadoes, floods and other crises can make a donation to American Red Cross Disaster Relief. The Red Cross is mobilizing more disaster workers and emergency vehicles to head the affected areas.

To donate to the Red Cross visit the local chapters in Savannah, Brunswick or Statesbor; go to www.redcross.org;call 800.RED CROSS or text the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
