CCSO mourns loss of K-9 officer

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Chatham County Sheriff's Office has announced that their K-9 Officer Rekky recently passed away. 

Corporal Rekky was a German Sheppard certified as a narcotics detector dog. He was partnered with Cpl. Stephen Darnstaedt and conducted over 5,200 searches and recovered 3 tons of marijuana worth millions. He also assisted in the arrest of several hundred people and the seizure of hundreds of weapons, according to CCSO. 

Rekky served for the Chatham County Sheriff's Office from 2001 until 2008. After his retirement in 2008, he went to live with his partner and his family. 

Rekky died on April 15. He was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.
