Bryan County School Superintendent Paul Brooksher and Assistant Superintendent Brad Anderson told WTOC that a male teacher at Bryan County High school was put on paid leave on April 17 after they received an anonymous email that said the teacher conducted inappropriate behavior around students during an out of town cross country meet in November.
Allegations include alcohol being involved and a female student staying overnight in his hotel room.
The school system is conducting its own investigation. They have reported the allegations to the Division of Family and Children Services because that is required by state law.
Officials told WTOC that because the alleged incident occurred in November and the anonymous tip was received on April 17 – the gap in time immediately raised a red flag about the legitimacy of the claims.
School officials are interviewing students and anyone else who may have been involved.
Officials are not releasing the teacher's name at this time. The school district expects to wrap up their investigation on Friday and will decide what happens next.
