City to hold onsite public forum for Project DeRenne

Posted: Updated:
SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The public won't have to look at pictures of Project DeRenne much longer. They'll be able to see what the project will look like in person.

The City of Savannah announced the Project DeRenne Field Exercise, and the city is inviting the public to an open forum onsite on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The event will take place on Hampstead Avenue, which will be closed to thru traffic between White Bluff Road and Montgomery Street.

Mayor Edna Jackson and council members will hold a physical walk-through of the site where a flyover would affect the homes in that area.

"I think it is good for the citizens to have an opportunity on site to visualize and feel and understand what the project will look like and impact them, especially the Hampstead Avenue area," said City Alderwoman at Large Carol Bell.

State DOT officials will also be on hand at the event. Bell said it's a sign the project is finally moving forward after years of delays, changes and public meetings.
