The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Dept. now has 20
new officers on the force after recruits were pinned with badges in a ceremony
at the Savannah Civic Center on Friday.
The new officers completed eleven weeks of state-mandated
training at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Garden City and then
an additional six weeks of patrol school at Metro's training center.
"I made the journey, and here I am," said new officer Ronald
Weeks. "Right now, this means everything to me."
"Of of the greatest classes we've had in a long time," said
SCMPD interim police chief Julie Tolbert. "All of our classes are important to
us, but we've been told by the recruiting staff, as well as the training staff,
that these men work exceptionally hard."
Tolbert said she, and the department, are very
excited to see these officers go to work.
