Gregg Allman suing to stop production of 'Midnight Rider'

Posted: Updated:

Richmond Hill rocker Gregg Allman is suing to stop production of his Hollywood biopic "Midnight Rider."

The lawsuit was filed in Chatham County Superior Court and comes days after Allman sent a letter to the film's director, urging him to stop production of the film.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Allman wrote to director Randall Miller, asking him not to resume production of the film out of respect for crew member Sara Jones.

In February, Jones was hit and killed by a train in Jesup during filming. Allman plans to take the film's producers to court.

He is suing Unclaimed Freight, the California production company that bought the rights to make the movie, claiming those rights have expired. Allman is asking a judge to keep filming from going forward.

The future of the film is already uncertain after actor William Hurt, who had signed on to play Allman, pulled out of the film.

A hearing in the case is scheduled for May 12 in front of Chatham County Judge John Morse.
