Savannah's Betty Bombers closes, early morning fire

Posted: Updated:

A local restaurant is closed until further notice. Investigators are trying to determine what caused Betty Bombers, the all American Eatery, to catch fire early Saturday morning.

Part of the building is blocked off but the manager of the legion tells WTOC they are lucky because the businesses on either side of the building were not affected.

According to the manager, it all started around 5 in the morning in the kitchen area of the restaurant. He says they believe one of the coolers might have caught fire but officials are still investigating. Luckily no one was injured but the damage was extensive to the restaurant and the men's bathroom, there is also smoke damage to the surrounding areas. The manager says they will be closed for a few weeks, which means this will impact some of their upcoming events.

"We will look at that Monday and see how far out the plans will be. We had one event next Friday that we moved to Bryson Hall, they were very accommodating so we are grateful for them," said American Legion Post #135 manager Daniel Mulder.

Mulder says they will have contractors out on Monday to assess the damage and to see how quickly they can restore the building.
