Vicksburg church collects items for tornado victims in Louisville

VICKSBURG, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Vicksburg church that began collecting items for tornado victims made deliveries Saturday to the hard hit Louisville area.

New Mount Elem Missionary Baptist Church began the food and non-perishable goods drive Thursday.

Several churches and members of the community helped to not only fill a van, but a pickup truck as well.

They have collected everything from canned foods and toiletries to water and other necessities.

"God called us be servants. So we're just doing what the Lord called us to do. People responded. So we are grateful for that. That everything worked out well and we just know some hearts are gonna be happy when we arrive there in Louisville," said Pastor Leonard Walker of New Mount Elem Missionary Baptist Church.

The van and pickup left at 8 a.m. Saturday morning to deliver the supplies to tornado victims in Louisville.
