HAMPTON CO., SC (WTOC) -

Almost 900 students in Hampton County School District 2 will be able to continue their education following Monday night's unanimous vote by the county council.

In the third and final reading, it took less than a minute for the council to approve School District 2's request for a $1 million loan.

Four of the five school board members were present and thanked the council members individually afterwards.

School District 2 has struggled with its finances, cutting $1.2 million from its budget this year and another $1 million for the 2014-2015 year.

"Everybody wants to do what's right for children and the vote tonight means we're all on the same page and we're singing from the same sheet of music because the funding we're receiving tonight is only going to help make us better in Hampton School District 2," said Dr. Beverly Gurley, Hampton County School District 2 Superintendent.

District 2 Board Chairman Daisy Orr added, "We want to educate our children, we love Estill, we love our schools and we love our children, and we needed that additional financing just to help us get through the year."

School District 2 will also take out a $1 million bond to match the council's loan.

The council and district will now develop a final agreement which includes the guidelines for the bond by May 29th.
