LYONS, GA (WTOC) -

Officials are waiting on autopsy results to provide more answers in Toombs County where they say a 6-year-old boy fatally shot a man in the head.

The man was identified as 75-year-old Carl J. Hunt, a retiree from the Georgia Department of Transportation. Police believe this was a tragic accident.

It happened shortly after 6 p.m. Monday south of Lyons in the Johnson Corner Community near Marvin Church Road at Hayden Jones Road.

Toombs County Sheriff Alvie Kight says the 6-year-old child picked up the gun in the man's truck. The gun went off and the man was shot in the head.

WTOC has learned the boy is somehow related to the victim.

Investigators are still trying to piece it all together. The body has been sent to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy to be performed Tuesday.

The Toombs County Sheriff's Office and the GBI continue to investigate.
