SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Savannah Fire and Emergency services wants your help to cut down on arsons.

May 5- 9 is National Arson Awareness Week, and this year's focus is vehicle arson.

Savannah Fire investigators opened 14 vehicle arson cases in 2013, and together those cases resulted in more than $342,000 in direct property damage.

"You watch people, and if you have multiple fires, and you start seeing the same people there or just people being overly helpful sometimes when a police officer or a firefighter is on scene, they can kind of guide them, that's the type of thing that sort of leads to some sort of knowledge that we would be interested in," said Savannah Fire Chief Charles Middleton.

Savannah Fire and Emergency Services is encouraging anyone with information about an arson case to contact them or the Georgia Arson Control Hotline.
