SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Georgia Emergency Management Association conducted a statewide hurricane exercise in various locations around Georgia on Tuesday, including one in Savannah.

At the Chatham County Mosquito Control Center, various organizations, such as the Georgia State Patrol Aviation Division, the Air National Guard, the Georgia Dept. of Natural Resources and the Civil Air Patrol.

They are all working together to simulate real life scenarios for when the area is bracing itself for a storm to hit land.

They said getting communication and teamwork down is key.

"Most of the time, anytime you have a disaster or a major event, communication is the biggest key," said GSP Assistant Aviation Director Sgt. 1st Class Jeff Rhodes. "This way we're able to get everyone together on the different radio systems, and see how to best communicate to make the mission happen."

Tuesday's exercise will help them decide what works and what doesn't in order for them to be more prepared for when a hurricane does hit.
