STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) -

Many in Statesboro gathered Wednesday afternoon to lay to rest a seven-year-old boy who died of Leukemia.

Those who loved Aaron Oliver will remember his heart, his cheery smile and his one day as a Statesboro firefighter.

His funeral included full honors for a fallen firefighter, including uniformed officers, a bag piper, and his casket carried atop a fire truck in a motorcade of sirens to the cemetery.

Oliver was Statesboro Fire's first Firefighter for a Day, a program they began last year for young children, particularly those with life-threatening illness.

"It was something we wanted to do for him," said Fire Chief Tim Grams. "His family said he talked about being a firefighter from that day on."

On Wednesday, dozens of firefighters from Statesboro and Sylvania packed the parking lot with fire trucks and led the procession from the funeral to the cemetery.
