Memorial Health receives $2 million donation

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Dr. Ben Carson, one of the best known physicians in the U.S., was the keynote speaker on Wednesday night for Memorial Health University Medical Center's Heart and Vascular Institute's expansion.

Hospital officials also announced on Wednesday night a $2 million gift toward funding of the expansion.

"When I understood that there are patients today that cannot be treated here, there is not that golden hour time frame, and when they get here, we don't have a bed, it clicked that we all have to do something," said Judith Thomas, who donated to Memorial Health. "I'm just grateful that I was able to do a little bit more than the average person can do."

"Your life, your health is the thing that's most important and seeing people who are willing to step up to the plate and make the kind of donations that we've seen not for themselves, but to help other people, that's what it's all about," said Carson.

The project will add 32 rooms to the Critical Care Area of the Cardiovascular Building.
