Lawsuit filed against school board president candidate

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

In a lawsuit just filed in Chatham County state court, a construction company that does business with the school system is taking aim at school board presidential candidate David Simons.

The lawsuit was filed by Satori Construction and claims Simons libeled the construction company in an April email to school board members.

Satori Construction claims Simons is a political consultant, representing Satori's competitors, according to the lawsuit filing.

Satori's lawsuit also contends that Simons wrote an email to school board members and the superintendent calling Satori and other minority and women owned construction companies "unscrupulous."

On Tuesday, a board member for the campaign transparency group common cause filed a complaint with the state claiming Simons didn't register as a lobbyist. WTOC has reached out to Simons, but has not heard back yet.
