CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

The GBI has released its findings into theft allegations against the former Chatham County Coroner Dr. James C. Metts.

The GBI audits include those on behalf of the Chatham County Commissioners and Metts' personal banking records. It included 2,000 pages of interviews, financial reports of Chatham County Commissioners and auditors.

Metts resigned as coroner in 2012 after an internal county audit revealed $140,000 in questionable expenses at the coroner's office.

"There is no evidence to support any criminal impropriety in the use of funds supplied by Chatham County to Metts as coroner," according to a letter from Special Agent Tracy D. Sands from GBI Region 5. Read the GBI letter.
