Protect your pets from fleas and ticks during National Pet Month

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

May is National Pet Month, and Arrow Exterminators is sharing some tips to prevent their pets from getting infested with fleas and ticks.

The recent wet weather, coupled with upcoming summer heat, provides perfect conditions for fleas and ticks in Savannah.

The bugs reproduce quickly and can pose serious health risks to your pets.

Five tips to protect your pets:

  • Keep outdoor play areas and lawns groomed and clear of brush, grass clippings, woodpiles and leaf debris
  • Bathe and groom pets often, take them to the vet for professional check-ups and check them regularly at home.
  • Vacuum frequently. This will help remove fleas and prevent the laying of eggs.
  • When outside, in areas where ticks are common, it's important to dress properly.
  • If you suspect a flea or tick inspection, call a professional immediately.
