SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Several Spring Commencement Ceremonies in our area happened on Saturday.

Armstrong Atlantic State University celebrated the achievements of 715 students at the Savannah Civic Center. Dr. Irving Victor, a local physician and business owner, served as the keynote speaker. Students received Master's, Bachelor's, and Associate's Degrees, in a wide range of fields.

Savannah State University celebrated their Spring Commencement in T.A. Wright Stadium. There were 330 students taking part in the university's 184th Commencement Ceremony. The address was delivered by Assistant Secretary, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, who leads the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of African Affars.

At Georgia Southern, nearly 2,700 students celebrated their big day; earning their four-year degrees. Georgia Governor, Nathan Deal, was the keynote speaker. Southern awarded Doctorate's and Master's Degrees on Friday. The two ceremonies combined marked the university's largest graduating class in history.

"It is bittersweet, because Georgia Southern is such a special place, and part of you wants to stay because it is so special. But, Georgia Southern has gotten us ready to go out in the world," said Garrett Green, Graduate.

"It is what we are asking them to do, is to step out into the unknown, and leave their comfort zone of education they have been part of the last four years, and become part of the world," said Georgia Governor, Nathan Deal.

The ceremony also marked the official opening of a second deck, which gives 6,000 more seats in the stadium. Among the many proud grandparents in the audience were WTOC's own Rick Snow, and former President and First Lady, Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter.
