SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

MAIT officers of the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Department are investigating a one-car crash that killed a passenger and left the driver in critical condition Sunday morning.

Latroy Adger, 30, of the 2200 block of New Mexico Street, was found dead in the wreckage of a Volvo XC-90 sport utility vehicle at Abercorn Street and East 49th Street at 2:13 a.m. on Sunday.

According to police, the 33-year-old driver, Rick Adger,  was in critical condition at Memorial University Medical Center.

The Volvo was traveling south on Abercorn at a high rate of speed when Ricky Adger lost control. The SUV crossed through the median, taking out shrubs and a metal light pole before crashing into a large tree on the corner of East 49th Street.

The two men were extricated from wreckage by Savannah Fire and Rescue.
