Argent Boulevard potholes major headache for residents

Posted: Updated:

Potholes are a serious problem for drivers on Argent Boulevard in Hardeeville, with some residents saying the rough road is damaging their cars.

The Dept. of Transportation have tried to patch up most of the spots, but people who have to drive this road everyday said that's not enough.

Hundreds of people, like John Evans, use Argent Road on a daily basis.

Evans lives right off of Argent Boulevard, and he works on Highway 170, the next road over. He's been driving on Argent Boulevard since he moved to the area in 2012.

"In the beginning, when I first moved out here, you kind of hard to move around the pot holes," said Evans. "I come from Michigan, and the roads there are bad, but this is the worst I've ever seen."

It's starting to get so bad, management at Auston Chase Apartments on Argent Boulevard sent a newsletter out to residents asking them to contact the DOT, and more than 100 people have done that.

"People are all over the road trying to dodge the potholes," said Evans. "You know, if you're going one direction, you'll have people in oncoming lanes coming at you because they're trying to dodge the potholes."

Evans and people who live at Auston Chase said that's what the commute is live every day, bumpy and uncomfortable.

"They keep putting temporary paving over it," said driver Paul Pierce. "The entire road needs to be paved.

The DOT has some good news for the people who use Agent Boulevard: it is going to resurface the road.

The project is scheduled to start in June and is expected to be completed by October.
