People voice support for Statesboro High principal

The principal for Statesboro High School will likely finish the school year away from the school.

He's on leave after an arrest on Friday. He is under investigation fro how he responded to charged against two teachers aides and coaches.

The whole situation has Dr. Martin Waters' supporters speaking up for him.

Waters' arrest on Friday still has people talking on Monday, and many of them are asking who knew what and when did they know it?

Waters is accused of not immediately reporting accusations to police against two teachers' aides accused of having sex with two 16-year0old girls.

"I think that came out of the blue for a lot of people, and that news traveled faster than the first two arrests," said SHS alumnae Katlyn Stephens.

Reverend Joe Eason is Waters' pastor, and he has known him most of his life.

"It was a surprise to me that anybody would even think that Marty would not have the very best interest of those children at heart," said Eason.

Stephens and others said Waters' record at the school outweighs his delayed response in one case.

"I still think of his as the principal of Statesboro High," she said. "I don't think anything different of him because it's a mess and what do you do with a mess but clean it up."

Both coaches remain in jail on felony charges.

Waters is free on bond on his misdemeanor.
