Creative Coast to open business incubator

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

In a few months, Savannah will have a new place where businesses go to grow when the Creative Coast moves to Boundary Street and invites new and developing companies to join them in a hub for innovation.

"This is where creators, artists, entrepreneurs , innovators will come," Creative Coast executive director Bea Wray said while standing outside the organization's new home, which will also be an incubator for local businesses. "They can come for mentoring, the can come for coaching, they can come for events. There'll be a lot of mentors coming in saying, 'Hey, let me tell you what I'm doing, let me get back interested in this.' It will be companies just making it to the next level."

Introduced at the Savannah Economic Development Authority board meeting today, the Creator's Foundry will offer a variety of space for a variety of businesses.

Some will need only a place to put a desk, others could have significant office space, while others will actually make their products there. All will be sharing ideas.

"They'll have an opportunity to prototype and then to figure out how they can actually grow and expand to market scale," said Cathy Hill, who is on the board for SEDA and the Creative Coast. "So we can grow our business right here in Savannah. They will all support each other."

With the cost of startups coming down and entrepreneurialism on the rise in Savannah, Wray said the Creator's Foundry is a timely step forward for the creative coast and the future of Savannah business.

"We already have a database of 13,000 people who care about the Creative Coast," she said. "We also have already been approached by a game developer from the Midwest and a handful of other companies that fit this space beautifully and they may want a larger chuck. That's what we're going for, high growth. And when they all grow, this 16,000 square feet, which looks huge, will be tiny."
