Search continues for missing Hollywood, SC woman

The search continues for 77-year-old Julia Mudgett from Hollywood, SC.

Investigators found her car on Monday afternoon at Tuten Landing in Jasper County, and crews were back on Tuesday morning searching the water for Mudgett.

The dive team was out at the site for four hours on Tuesday morning, along with Jasper County Sheriff's deputies. A helicopter was also present, searching the whole area for Mudgett, or clues to where she could be.

There are still a lot of questions that have some people that live in the area afraid.

"We have such a great neighborhood, and this landing attracts this kind of incident," said resident Jimmy Varn.

Varn lives right off of Tuten Landing Road, and he was home on Monday night when Charleston County deputies found Mudgett's car, a 2002 Hyundai Elantra, near a boat landing.

Varn came out to watch deputies as they resumed searching on Tuesday morning. He said he wasn't used to seeing this much police in his neighborhood.

"I almost feel like I should pull out my .44 in the golf cart before I go take a ride now," said Varn. "It's almost like the Wild West down here. I'm sure there's going to be concerns in the neighborhood now."

Mudgett went missing from her Hollywood, SC home on May 4, and at this point the authorities have no idea where she could be or what happened to her, but they do suspect foul play.

This is an active investigation, and the Charleston County Sheriff's Office is working with Beaufort County and Jasper County law enforcement.
