HAZLEHURST, GA (WTOC) -

Police in Hazlehurst are investigating a double-fatal shooting of a mother and son late Thursday night.

Javonnie Mondray Chambers, 41, and his mother, Mary L. Chambers, 64, were killed in the shooting.

Police Chief Steve Land confirmed the incident occurred at a home on MLK Boulevard.

The two victims were transported to the Jeff Davis Hospital. Mary Chambers died en route and Javonnie was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Investigators said that based on information and evidence collected at the scene, the shooting of Javonnie was drug related and that his mother was not a target.

Authorities said the residence was hit with multiple gunshots by a least two black male gunmen.

Also inside the home at the time of the shooting were two children, ages 2 and 4. During the shooting, the children and another adult went and took cover in another part of the residence and were not injured.

No arrests have been made at this time.

The GBI Crime Lab will be conducting autopsies on both victims.
