International tourists visit Savannah to make promotional videos

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The City of Savannah is getting an international spotlight this week.

Some tourists from around the world are visiting and encouraging others to do the same.

"This is part of our ongoing efforts to increase visitation to Savannah from international markets," said Erica Backus, the director of public relations for Visit Savannah.

The city's tourism department is teaming up with marketing company Brand USA (www.brandusa.com) to make promotional videos about Savannah in several different languages.

"I just want to see everything! As much as I can," said Vange Tapia who is on the trip with Brand USA.

The first stop was The Paris Market on Broughton Street where the visiters got to see international foods and gifts that reminded them of home. A photographer filmed them as they shopped around in the store.

It's just one of several locations Brand USA will be filming. The crew plans to film all over Savannah from parks and museums, to shops and historical sites.

"I really wanted to come here in my case because I know about the history of the ghosts and the music," Tapia said.

The videos will air in French, German, Spanish and Brittish English. Savannah's tourism department hopes the Brand USA films will help boost the city's appeal to an international market.

"To not only spur visitation to the United States but to Savannah and the state of Georgia specifically," said Backus.

It's a chance to see some of the highlights of Savannah from a new perspective.

"We've been seeing more and more folks coming over, especially from Europe to visit Savannah, they're kind of looking for those more unique vacation experiences," Backus said.

"So far I found that the people are amazing. I love the architecture. We went to the... Well, you have 22 beautiful parks so I was just looking everywhere... It was beautiful," said Tapia.

The filming wraps up Friday. Once the videos are complete, they will be posted on wtoc.com.
