JASPER CO., SC (WTOC) -

The eight Jasper County students who were injured during Friday morning's school bus crash have been released from the hospital.

The crash happened around 7 a.m. near West Frontage Road just outside of Ridgeland.

The bus, carrying a total of ten students, was headed towards Hardeeville-Ridgeland Middle School.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is charging the driver, 21-year-old Lacharles Singleton of Allendale, with driving too fast for conditions.

"He dropped something in the floorboard, he reached down to pick it up and when he did that, he went off on the right side of the roadway. Once he realized he was off the road, he jerked the steering wheel to the left side of the road, at that time, the school bus struck a tree and overturned," Hannah Wimberly with the SC Highway Patrol said.

The school bus crash remains under investigation.
