Infant thrown from car after Walthourville crash

WALTHOURVILLE, GA (WTOC) -

An early morning accident in Walthourville sent an infant to the Augusta Burn Center.

According to GSP Trooper David Harris, the accident occurred around 7:30 Friday morning on West Oglethorpe Highway near the Cedar Hill mobile home park.

Harris said Ronette Ghant, 44 of Allenhurst was traveling in the westbound lane behind Nakita Johnson, 24 also of Allenhurst, when Johnson, driving a 2010 Dodge Avenger attempted to make a right turn into a residence.  

Ghant, driving a 2001 Ford Explorer struck Johnson from behind causing her vehicle to rotate and ejected a 1-year-old female infant.

According to Harris, Johnson had to crawl under the Avenger to retrieve the infant who sustained 2nd degree burns and had to be transported to the Joseph M. Still burn center in Augusta.

Johnson who had two other children in the vehicle ages 3 and 5 was cited for not having the children restrained.

Ghant was cited for following to closely.
