Savannah-Chatham School BOE President Candidate: David Simons

Lieutenant Colonel David Simons is used to being the brains behind campaign for other people, now he's front and center running for the head of the Board of Education.

He said one hot button issue is the change in bell times for students, possibly allowing high school students to start later in the day, saying it'is a smart move.

"I do support the notion of having the elementary students start earlier, high school kids start later. I think it's a budget neutral change that could have some positive outcomes for our students," he said.

In the long run, Simons said the school district should be focused on workforce development, starting at the youngest grades.

"We need to have every child that graduates from the public school system needs to have a skill, needs to needs to go to college. If we've done nothing less...we've failed that child and the community will suffer for it," Simons said.
