Officials investigate box fire at Home Depot on Victory

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Officials are investigating a box fire in the back of the Home Depot on Victory Drive, Sunday afternoon.

Savannah Fire Public Information Officer, Mark Keller, does not know what caused it, but boxes caught on fire and they had to shut power off to the building.

No damage was reported inside the building. There was little charring on the back, but they have blocked off everything and are not letting employees back in.

The store will be closed the rest of Sunday and the power will remain turned off throughout the night.

The store will try to reopen on Monday, depending on city officials. They have to perform an inspection to make sure everything is safe. Then, Georgia Power can turn the power back on.

The parking lot is still blocked off by Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police.

Savannah Fire is turning the situation over to Home Depot.

City inspectors are expected to be out there at 8 a.m. Monday morning.
