Folks at Spencer Elementary celebrated the 10th Anniversary of the Youth Mentoring Group, "Young Men of Honor" on Sunday.
The group was started by a mother of five girls, who wanted to give young men an organization that would teach boys how to become productive young men. This year, their first seniors graduated and will head off to college.
"Everybody is important, regardless of what we think, regardless of their environment. I have always told the young men that your environment does not determine who you are. If your environment is negative, let's do better. So, they do not have to fall into that same negativity; they do not have to fall into drugs; they do not have to fall into crime. They are men of honor, and they are going to be productive citizens, and they are going to make the city of Savannah very proud," said Diane Jackson, Founder and Director, Young Men of Honor.
The Young Men of Honor School has a one percent graduation rate. Congratulations to the graduates.
