Deputies search for suspect after early morning home invasion, shooting

BLUFFTON, SC (WTOC) -

A search is on for a suspect after an early morning home invasion and shooting in the Lowcountry. 

It happened at a home on Hubbard Lane in Bluffton. Beaufort County Sheriff's Office deputies say they received a call around 5 a.m. Monday in reference to a gunshot victim after a home invasion. 

Upon arrival, deputies made contact with a 49-year-old male suffering from gunshot injuries. The victim's girlfriend advised that they had been asleep in bed when an unknown black male armed with a handgun entered the home through an unlocked door and demanded money.

The suspect was given an unknown amount of cash and then a struggle ensued between the suspect and the victim, during which several shots were fired, according to BCSO.

The suspect then fled the scene. The victim was transported to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah for treatment. His condition remains undisclosed at this time. The female victim was not injured.

Deputies are currently searching for a black male suspect between 20-30 years of age, approximately 6'0 feet tall and 160 lbs. He was wearing a red shirt with yellow stripes, blue jeans, a dark colored baseball cap and a red bandana over his face at the time. He is beleived to have fled in an unknown vehicle.

Anyone with information regarding the home invasion and shooting is asked to contact the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office or South Carolina Crime Stoppers.
