Voters in Chatham Co. heading out to the polls

CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

Voters in Chatham County are heading out to the polls with some of the candidates banking on big turnout, but some turnout numbers seem to be quite low.

On the islands and the landings, Board of Elections said the numbers are mild, which for today is strong.

Downtown, one of the precincts as of 2 p.m. reported 8 – 8 voters have come out. Which is not a good sign for some of these candidates.

But that's not the story for all precints.

On Wilmington Island, the Methodist Church had more than 300 voters, and a lot of these places are still expecting these numbers to grow after work.

Voter Registration told WTOC it is hard to compare with past years, because this is the first time a primary has been held so early.

Still, keep in mind there are nearly 10,000 absentee and early votes already cast.
