Police: W. 46th Street shooting not random act

The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police are investigating a shooting on West 46th Street that occurred on Wednesday morning.

The identity of the man shot has been released.

Police said 23-year-old King Reeves was shot in the leg when a man walking with another group of people behind Reaves shot him from behind.

Reeves told Violent Crimes detectives that he was shot as he walked to a relative's house on Thursday morning in the 600 block of West 46th Street. Investigators do not believe this was a random crime.

"At this point, it appears they were targeting this particular person, so I don't think it was a random walk-by shooting," said Public Information Officer Julian Miller. "I think there was some reason behind it."

"We live in a very safe neighborhood, but sometimes things happen and a lot of kids around here," said Robert H. Reeves with the Neighborhood Watch Association. "It is unfortunate that happened early this morning, but when you have people doing other things. Things can happen."

King Reeves was transported to Memorial University Medical Center for treatment. Metro detectives are asking people who may have seen something to call Crimestoppers.
