Early morning fire at Garden City restaurant being investigated

GARDEN CITY, GA (WTOC) -

An investigation is underway after an early morning fire at a restaurant in Garden City.

It happened just before 2 a.m. at Babes BBQ Shack on U.S. Highway 80 West.

Officials say the fire started in the shed where the two large cookers are. The shed was destroyed but the dining area was not damaged. No injuries were reported.

This is the second fire at the restaurant in about a year with similar circumstances. Owners say that also back in 2009, just months after opening, a fire broke out at the restaurant, charring the dining area. They say they recently remodeled the shed area and added some new equipment and had new wiring done.

Investigators will be out later Thursday morning to try and determine a cause of the blaze.

At this time, employees are working in an off-site area to prepare for the day of business dispite the fire. They have moved a cooker in and are preparing meat in order to open Thursday, which they say will happen at their normal time at 11 a.m.
