David Simons ends candidacy for School Board President

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

David Simons has announced he is ending his candidacy for School Board President.

In an email sent to WTOC's Don Logana, Simons said, "After careful consideration and with the support of my family, I am terminating my bid for Savannah-Chatham County School Board President. This position is too important to be distracted by issues unrelated to educating the children of Chatham County. I have learned from the challenges of candidacy, and I believe these lessons will make me a better campaign consultant going forward. I truly care about the future of our children and this community and believe this is the right decision at this time."

According to the Chatham County Board of Elections, Chester Ellis would move into the run-off, if and when Simons officially drops out of the runoff.

Simons has not notified the Board of Elections in writing yet. The election has not been certified, which would likely happen on Friday.
