Seniors in one community have a new place to call home. McFadden place is now open in Pembroke. The city teamed with Mercy Housing to build the 30 single-bedroom apartments. The apartments will allow seniors to still live independently, but with the security of neighbors and on-site management.
The company specializes in affordable housing across the country. "The rents are based on their income specifically, so it's only 30 percent of their income regardless of what that income is," said Mercy Housing's Robin Haddock. "So some may pay $50 a month and some may pay $100. We also provide the water, so they only have to pay their electricity bill."
Developers also recognized the McFadden family and others who donated the land for the complex.
