Chatham Co. waiting to see who will face Byrne in run-off

CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

Chatham County voters are waiting to see who will face Jolene Byrne in a runoff for Chatham County School Board President.

This comes after the second place finisher, David Simons, chose to bow out of the run-off.

On election night, he got 21 percent of the vote.

Front runner Byrne took almost double that at 40 percent.

But Simon says it's not about the numbers, it was about the personal attacks aimed at him.

At an April school board debate chicken signs were put out because Simons had missed the two previous debates.

Then an ethics complaint was filed against Simons, claiming he was acting as a lobbyist without filing the paperwork.

The third-place finisher Rev. Chester Ellis said his election team has disbanded and he's already picked up his campaign signs.

He said he'll have to think long and hard before jumping into the runoff.
