DNR summer boating tips

Posted: Updated:
SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Memorial Day weekend is the start of boating season, and the Georgia Dept. of Natural Resources is urging everyone to boat safely and responsibly.

DNR law enforcement will be out in force. They do not need probably cause to stop you, search the boat or administer a breathalyzer test, and the legal limit has been changed to .08 on the water.

Boaters, even the operators, are allowed to have open containers, but remember that the blood alcohol limit is .08.

The DNR would also like for boaters to remember that there is zero tolerance for interacting with dolphins. Tapping on the side of the boat to attract them is prohibited, and please do not feed them fish, as this can cause them to follow handouts and stop searching for food on their own.

The DNR would like to wish everyone a happy and safe summer boating season.
