Phoenix police say a prison inmate is now facing charges in the 1980 murder of a Phoenix woman.
Phoenix police said detectives initially arrested Arlie Tubbs, 60, for the murder of 57-year-old Matha Chesney, but had limited evidence and he was never charged.
Then a year ago detectives from the department's Cold Case Homicide Squad reviewed the case and the 34-year-old case was resubmitted to the Phoenix police crime lab with new forensic evidence as well as evidence from 1980.
Tubbs was on probation at the time of the murder and was serving time in prison for another charge when he was indicted last month.
He was booked into jail and charged with the crime on Thursday.
