SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The nationwide group, "Quilts of Valor," presented Sgt. Bilyeu with one of the Patriotic Quilts of Valor in downtown Savannah on Saturday.

The group works hard to award active duty and veterans with a quilt to honor their service to our country. The group started 10 years ago, when a woman made a quilt for her son who was a wounded veteran; then, she realized there were many more military members who also needed support.

"We have women all over the country making these quilts, we don't serve, this is the way we serve our veterans; our veterans need the thank you, and this is what we do," said Lanette Edens, Coordinator for the Quilts of Valor Retreat.

Since it's inception, "Quilts of Valor" has given more than 100,000 quilts to veterans.
