ATLANTA (WTOC) -

Summer barbeque season is heating up, as you gather with you friends and family for a special cookout you might be suprised to have some unwanted guests.

Insects leave everyone feeling uncomfortable and their painful stings can pose a real danger to those who suffer from allergic reactions.

Arrow Exterminators has put together information on preventing the unexpected arrival of these "barbeque" pests:

  • Stinging insects: This group includes wasps, yellow jackets, and hornets. The best way to avoid being stung by one of these pests is to give them their space. If left alone they are less likely to percieve danger resulting in an attack.
  • Red imported fire ant: These pests can be found in their signature tall mounds. The best method to avoid attack is to watch your footing.
  • Mosquitos: One of the summer's most notorious pests due to the itchy bites that they leave behind. These insects carry deadly diseases like West Nile Virus, using bug spray with DEET will ward them off.
  • House flies: One of the top nuisance pests, this insect can easily transit backeria on your food. Keep any free standing food wrapped up and indoors to keep flies at bay.
  • Ants: Common types of ants can be found in and around the home, they are constantly searching for any food left out. Keep all food covered and clean up any crumbs that may have spilt after meals to avoid an encounter with these pests.
