Statesboro honors veterans with Memorial Day ceremony

People in Statesboro are honoring fallen heroes as hundreds came together to remember friends and family who have died in service.

Memorial Day morning in Statesboro brings together generations of veterans and other to remember the fallen.

American Legion Post 90 hosted their annual observance to remember servicemen and women lost in war. Rev. Carl Ledbetter spoke about his experience fighting in Korea.

"My was is called the forgotten war," said Ledbetter. "So I hope to reminding people this morning that it was a real war and plenty of lives were lost."

The ceremony was also a chance for veterans of different eras to share their bond and remember comrades who didn't return. The ceremony included a reading of the names of every service members from the community lost in battle.

"Statesboro and Bulloch County do a good job of continuing Memorial Day, as well as Veterans Day in November," said Ledbetter.

Veterans said they wished many more people attended this ceremony each year, but they are grateful for the ones that do.
