The Beaufort County School District budget has passed the first of three readings, but the County Council wants to see those numbers reworked.
This afternoon, the council unanimously passed the budget but, "by title only," with the intent of discussing it further in upcoming financial meetings.
The district is asking for $192 million for the 2014 -2015 school year, which is $10 million more. School officials say the majority of the increase comes from unfunded state mandates.
County Council will hold two public hearings before taking a final vote on the district's budget.
