BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) -

A trial date has been set for Preston Oates, the man accused of killing Carlos Olivera on Christmas Eve 2010 in the Lowcountry.

It has been confirmed that the trial will start on June 16th.

Oates is accused of fatally shooting Carlos Olivera after trying to tow his car in the Edgefield subdivision.

The trial date was set after it had long been delayed by the lawyers for Oates filing pretrial appeals. His lawyers tried to get the case thrown out by using South Carolina's Castle Doctrine, which has been tying up the case. But after South Carolina made changes to their Castle Doctrine Law, the appeals court denied Oates' appeal.
