Port Wentworth police searching for man who escaped custody

PORT WENTWORTH, GA (WTOC) -

Port Wentworth police are searching for a man who escaped from police custody on May 28.

On Wednesday, officers responded to a call of a suspicious person in the area of Phillips Avenue.

Police arrived and located Derek Morgan and detained him while they conducted an investigation into the report.

While Morgan was seated in the patrol vehicle, he climbed through the vehicle's partition and escaped from the vehicle and ran on foot, evading police.

While on the run, Morgan broke into another home and may have changed clothes.

The Port Wentworth Police Department is seeking the public's assistance in locating 22-year-old Morgan, described as a white male, approximately 5'10" tall, 160 pounds, with light brown hair and a full beard who is wanted for arrest for loitering and prowling, possession of a controlled substance, escape, obstruction by fleeing and burglary.
